Pop-up to run a program showed up when I went on the internet?

Now, I’m not sure if I have malware/virus or not. Sorry if this is in the wrong place.

This isn’t as important as other people’s problems are, but my computer hasn’t been on the internet for a long time and I’ve been disconnected from it. But I just recently went back on it, and I’m pretty sure I didn’t click on anything and a pop-up showed up asking me if I wanted to run a program. I just canceled it out.

My family member needed on my computer for something on a .gov website (.gov websites are completely safe correct?) but apparently a Adobe Flashplayer update was installing while my family member was on my computer. I just canceled it out when I seen it’s icon at the bottom of my screen.

Is this the cause of a virus/malware? Avast, Windows Defender, my firewall etc… Hasn’t told me about any viruses/malware that I might have, and I did a thorough scan with up-to-date MBAM and it said there was no malware.

I should be safe correct?

I also have two more questions if you don’t mind:

  1. How good is MBAM and Avast? I heard their really good, and so far I really like them. But I’ve heard people say they haven’t been able to catch some viruses. So how accurate in your opinion is MBAM and Avast? If they both say that my computer is malware-free, that should mean that there’s a high chance that I really am malware free?

  2. My computer is usually disconnected from the internet, so my computer’s Avast and MBAM doesn’t get updated as often. But despite this, MBAM seems to update to the latest version even if I didn’t get the updates before the newest one. Is Avast the same way?

Thanks in advance. Sorry for the trouble.

1. How good is MBAM and Avast?
Verry good, when it comes to detecting infected websites avast is probably the best in the world If you go in to a forum where they work on Malware removal, you will fiend that Malwarebytes is one of the tools they always use
2. My computer is usually disconnected from the internet, so my computer's Avast and MBAM doesn't get updated as often. But despite this, MBAM seems to update to the latest version even if I didn't get the updates before the newest one. Is Avast the same way?
Avast is updating as soon as it detects a internet conection, and then every 4hours (avast free) MBAM you have to update manually if you don`t have the PRO

and yes you should update the adobe flash

Ah, thank you.

So the adobe flash player pop-ups was safe?

One more question: After updating my computer’s service pack (I believe that’s what it’s called) and after restarting my computer, my computer told me that Avast was turned off. But Avast said it’s “Providers” are running (The tool bar icon). Is Avast really turned off? Or is my computer just mistaking it for being turned off. If it is “Turned off” I don’t know how to turn it back on.

Thanks again. ;D
