I’m a Win98, Outlook Express 6 and Avast! 4.7 Home user. My OE’s POP3 and SMTP setup (Tools > Accounts > Properties>Servers tab) changes suddenly to 127.0.0.1 .
Could anybody please tell me why? How can I fix it?
Thanks in advance,
Roman

I believe that is so they can be passed through the mail scanner
That is as it should be after you have run the Mail Protection Wizard, avast’s Internet Mail provider uses this local proxy (127.0.0.1) to first examine your email, then it arrives in your inbox (if clean).
I assume that you are getting errors when you are trying to collect or send your email, etc. please paste the contents of the error or use a screen shot of the error.
This is more likely to be your firewall blocking ashMaiSv.exe (avast’s email scanner), ensure your firewall allows this file and what is your firewall ?
You’re probably using Windows 98 or Millenium. The change is normal.
Maybe you should check if your email is being scanned by avast. To do so, check one of these points:
-
Is the avast icon (the special one of email scanning) be shown in the system tray?
-
Is your email header with the lines X-Antivirus: avast! (VPS 0XXX-X, XX/XX/2005), Inbound message and X-Antivirus-Status: Clean? (Right click the message, choose Properties and Details)
-
Are clean notes added at the bottom of the email? (Internet Mail provider settings)
hi, for a user of win98, I recomendaria him that used like mail manager thunderBird, light, but much more fast and it does not present/display compatibility problems to you. Download in
http://www.mozilla.com/thunderbird/
That however, will do nothing for the problem Romeo623 is experiencing that would happen in tbird also. Romeo623 isn’t reporting speed or display problems.
Thanks gamolar, but DavidR is right. I’ve downloaded and installed ThunderBird and there’s the same problem: POP3 and SMPT setup changes again and again.
Tech: 1) The Avast! icon is shown in the system tray. 2) There’s no header with that lines. 3) There’s no clean notes added at the bottom of the email.
Which is exactly what it should do with win98/winME, etc. what is blocking I believe it is your firewall and you haven’t answered the questions about that.
