POP3 error with Avast Internet Security

Hello,

I use Thunderbird and Avast Internet Security (using Avast! antivirus 5.0)
All is OK on all the PC under Windows XP of our small network except on one:
When I try to receive messages, I got this error message :
(sorry it’s in french)
“Une erreur s’est produite avec le serveur de courrier POP3, contactez l’administrateur de ce serveur ou essayer à nouveau. Le serveur de courrier pop.frequenceprotestante.com a répondu.”

I precise that on Thunderbird, the parameters of the server was : use a securised connexion : “TLS if possible”, I now used “never”, but the error message is always the same. The port used by sever pop3 is 110.

Do somebody has had the same problem ? What can I do ?

Jean-Louis

try adding your sever(s) manually in avast. restart. retry.

Thank you Asyn,

I cannot access at the PC with the problem now, but I suppose that I’ll have to parameter Avast like that:
Protection résidente → Agent Mail → Réglages expert → Comptes SSL → compte messagerie:
I must verify if I have a line like :
frequenceprotestante.com POP3 110 “TLS” (or “SSL”)

I have to suppress it and perhaps add a new line :

frequenceprotestante.com POP3 110 “none” ?

if !!! it is a ssl mail account you should see: xyserver.xy pop3 995 SSL
you have to disable tls/ssl in thunderbird!!!

Effectively it was what I supposed:
cf. same anomaly here:
http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=51863.0

I came to :
Protection résidente → Agent Mail → Réglages expert → Comptes SSL → compte messagerie:
I suppressed the line
frequenceprotestante.com POP3 110 TSL

and all is OK!

Glad you got it figured out.

Just an FYI/future reference as to avast! Mail Shield SSL settings from avast! Support Center:
