on windows 7 home premium 64 bit.
Please post the whole error message.
Hello, i have seemed to fix the problem, i will explain…here was the error msg…
Unable to send or receive messages for the Rogers (dannyg777) account. The e-mail server returned an error.
Server Error: 0x800CCC90
Server Response: -ERR Cannot connect to POP server 206.190.36.17 (206.190.36.17:995), connect error 10061
Server: ‘pop.broadband.rogers.com’
Windows Live Mail Error ID: 0x800CCC90
Protocol: POP3
Port: 110
Secure(SSL): No
Maybe this is a bug or not, i don’t know. So i was running avast 4.8 pro without any issues. I upgraded to version 5 just be running the installer. Everything went ok, rebooted at the end. I’m using windows live mail with the following acccounts…
Hotmail
Rogers pop3 Mail (default, NO SSL) my primary ISP
yahoo pop3 SSL
Gmail pop3 SSL
after playing around for a while i seemed to figure out somethings. In expert settings for the mail shield, under SSL accounts…i removed what was listed there. Checked email, worked once. Then got the pop msg about SSL account. Tried again, got the same error for the rogers email. Everyother account still worked. So i go back to mail shield, and delete the listed SSL accounts again, but this time also unchecked the box ‘automatically detect and warm about unprotected ssl connections’ I recheck windows live mail, all accounts work, send emails to myself, all accounts still work.
I was happy i got everthing workin, but then i got another idea…
i put mail shield all back to its default settings including the SSL option, but this time…i decided to modify windows live mail. I kept hotmail and rogers the same, but changed gmail and yahoo not to use SSL. Guess what, everthing still works. Weird, but happy nonetheless. Acutally, its better this way, i’ve noticed avast now inserts the clean msg txt with gmail and yahoo now. Wow, i wonder if i could have done the same thing with version 4.8? But nice to know avast is scanning yahoo and gmail wnow.
Anyways, other than this minor setback, i’ve had to chance to play around with the new version and i must say its pretty good. Its got a lower memory footprint than 4.8 and runs faster.
Wow, i wonder if i could have done the same thing with version 4.8?No, 4.8 can not scan SSL mail.......well you can but you need to use an extra program called stunnel, so it is complicated
