Popup not working

When I first start my computer and I’m not connected to the internet yet the warning popup does not show up like it used to do with avast 6. I’m using v.7.0.1426.

What warning popup ?

Do you want to see the update failure popup?
Which are your avast settings for: 1) update avast, 2) how to connect the internet, 3) the popups themselves.

The alert popup doesn’t show when I first start the computer and I don’t have internet access yet.

What does the alert popup say as iv never seen any alert before internet is connected.

What is your connection method dial-up or broadband (as Tech asked) ?

Set the avastUI, Settings, Updates, Update Parameters and set that to how you connect. Also in the Proxy Settings set it to Direct connection (no proxy), if you don’t use a proxy to connect to the internet.

Jimb11 is right.

I thought this was a new feature for v. 7. If connection to the web is not established, not to show the " Avast! was not able to look for updates " pop up. I sometimes disconect from the web to install programs, and it was weird not to see Avast! pop up alerting me that it could not look for updates after reboot. No biggy since I now I am not connected though.

My install was from scratch ( clean ), and my updates occurs regularly, VPS and up-streams, and the pop up alerts too, sound, voice and all, no problems there.

I use braodband and my setting are like David’s.

  1. My computer is permanently connected to the Internet ( Parameters ).
  2. Show notification box if an error occurs ( Details ).
  3. Direct connection ( No proxy ).

New thing ? Bug ?

Thank you now I know I’m not the only one!

Knowing you aren’t alone doesn’t answer the questions as before anyone can suggest anything we have to know what your Update settings are and how you connect to the internet.

Also why would there not be an internet connection when avast is trying to check for updates. This is where our questions come in, a process of elimination.

If you have an always on broadband connection, that should be available (if not why not) when avast first checks for updates.

I have had Red Update Failed notices in avast7 if for some reason my network connection wasn’t working.

DavidR, I can not speak for Jimb11, but my experience. I was reinstalling a HP software last week, and I unplugged the network cable from the PC red adapter to disable Avast! shields to install the program. After reboot, Avast! did not pop up any notice of not finding a connection or not able to do the updates.

Obviously I can only speak for my experience, but I also delay the update check anyway. But crucially we need to know more about the OPs settings and connection as we can only speculate otherwise.

I use wifi at work when I use my laptop so I have to log in to get online and sometimes I don’t log in right aways so when avast checks for updates I’m not online. When this happened with avast 6 the alert popup would show but now with avast 7 that popup doesn’t show up.

For me the logic is correct, if avast doesn’t find a connection present then it wouldn’t be checking for updates, so it wouldn’t fail, so wouldn’t display a failure pop-up. The difference being has that logic change between avast 6 & 7 and I don’t know that.

For me because I’m on a LAN RJ-45 cable to my router and then to a modem, it may appear that my connection is established, but when I had a problem with the modem it wasn’t able to connect and so did throw up the error.

That is what I thougth. No connection. No looking for updates. No pop up. New in A7 ? who knows ?

I have also the same setup. I have not had trouble with my modem to see an alert yet. Will see.
