Popup window after Activating Avast Free.

Come on Avast, this is just douchey. You know dang well most users don’t read boxes and are click happy and would just click the “continue with upgrade” and not know enough to click the X in the corner. Users expect a button to close the window and are not expecting to have to press the X in the corner. Then they would end up with a trial version of Avast which when it expires would ask for money and they would probably pay you. Very Slimly.

If they happened to click the big CONTINUE WITH UPGRADE button, they would have to complete a payment instruction before they could get the 60 day trial version.

Presumably they would back out at that point and not be on the hook for payment at the end of the trial.

Whilst they can use the X at top right, it would be more gracious if Avast simply put a button there with No Thanks… and continue with avast free.

Hi abottjen2,
You might want to install this free program that takes care of all of “those auto-filled” boxes
so that this kind of thing does not happen.
They all should be “Opt In”, not Opt Out.
Share it around.

Always better to use the original vendor (and safer too). https://unchecky.com/

However, using this program will not prevent this issue you are reporting. Only due diligence will, as DavidR says.

I wasn’t happy with all the hoops one needed to jump through just to do a simple renewal.

One day I hope to see a gracious way to exit this loop and simply say No Thankyou.

Having to use the X close function is so poor almost designed to trap. I know one thing, having to do that certainly doesn’t incline me to purchase or give the 60day trial a go and have to complete a payment mandate to start.
