Popups at startup

Since 2-3 days, when the computer starts up, Avast always show me a useless popup, it’s either about the Browser Cleanup or the Home Network Security. If I click on them, they just send me to the Avast main interface, and I don’t have the Browser Cleanup anywhere, but I don’t need them anyway. Is there a way to block them? Thank you.

Hi bender01

I am not sure if I understand your question.

  • If there is a problem with Avast! you can repair it :
  1. Start - Control Panel - Add/Remove Programs - Avast! - Change.
  2. Repair.
  3. Follow the instructions.
  4. Reboot.
  • If you want to add/remove modules :
  1. Start - Control Panel - Add/Remove Programs - Avast! - Change.
  2. Change.
  3. Check/uncheck module(s).
  4. Continue.
  5. Reboot.

I hope this helps

What avast program do you have ?
The paid versions can be stopped, no option in the free version.

Don’t click them, just close them using the X icon in the popup.

Ah, those are advertising popups too ? I didn’t know that

Avast Free Antivirus 2015.10.2.2214

I saw indeed in the options that you can only disable advertisings for other Avast products if you’re premium, these didn’t seem to be advertisings but reminders of actions I could do, but it seems I was wrong.

Whilst the ones quoted by the OP are not directly advertising popups, some of them may well have some sort of linkage to an avast product.

I think that these informative/ads popups are piggybacked to the virus definitions update in the background - were in previous versions you would see a dual popup for auto update notification and these info/ad popups.

It’s disgusting and depressing that a supposedly reputable company would consider such an annoying marketing ploy. I am a long time Avast user, and I am now seeking alternatives. It’s a shame, because the product is excellent. Now, if they would only fire those bozos in the marketing department, I would continue to be a happy Avast user as long as I can reach over and move my mouse. As it is, these stupid pop-ups drive me crazy and interfere with the smooth startup of my computer each and every morning. Goodbye Avast!

Bill,

you can real easily disable the pop-ups in a paid version.

What happens if you enable Silent/Gaming Mode?

What are the benefits of the paid versus Free for the average user?

Is the main benefit that you can turn off the advertising ?
That’s no reason for upgrading.

The problem with your suggestion is that doing this would disable all pop-ups.
If avast blocks an infection you wouldn’t know about it.

The Benefits are obvious as clearly shown here: https://www.avast.com/compare-antivirus

Yes I see the other features. For some people, seems good value. For certain types though, they’ll never
“upgrade” from the free version.

Dave,

is it really that hard to find this…

Hi Eddy,
I lived in Tilburg NL for three months many years ago. Very nice little town,
one of my UK friends had learned to speak the language after being there almost three years.

Unfortunately, I was unable to pick much up in the short time I was there.

Thanks -
Dave
