As a basic rule of thumb, don’t install/download anything that you didn’t initiate.
A google search should really have been you first port of call
I have a problem whereby everytime I try to connect to the net I get redirected to the above web page which seems to be trying to download all sorts of virusy type things to my PC.... Has anyone heard of this problem before? I've googled but can't seem to find much info! Here is my hjt log, so if anyone has any ideas at all, I would really really really appreciate it! Thanks in advance for any help you can give!
From this it would appear to be some form of browser hijack attempt, so they/he should run the hijackthis program,
I'm not completely sure about the nature of your problem, but my girlfriend experienced a similar problem and we seem to have fixed it.
She’s running a Windows XP Hom Edition. What would happen is that she would frequently receive a pop-up that sent her to http://portal.soul-gate.net (DO NOT GO THERE!). What happens is that it offers to install a FREE INTERNET EXPLORER PLUG-IN. Obviously, we chose no. It then gives you a window saying, “You must click Yes to proceed” and you click Ok. It then gives you the plug-in window again. The only way to break the loop was to force it away, closing Explorer. I googled all over the place and couldn’t find a solution, so we just tolerated it for a while.
These are just two quotes from hits on a google search on porta.soul-gate, there were 166 hits. If you are ever in doubt google it, the information (truth) is out there, check out some of the other hits for confirmation.
