Possible exposure when uninstalling previous antu-virus?

Hi to all.

I’m a newby here, so please excuse me if my question is stupid.

I’m wondering if I would be exposed to threats after having uninstalled my current anti-virus(AVG - very slow)and before installing avast!?

Thanks for any help.

depends for how long you did not have any AV and what you did in that time…

Unlikely but not impossible.

@ Bobbler

No…

Thanks to all for prompt reponse.

I would only be online for as long as it would take to download avast! and I would not be doing anything else.

However, I think I’m being a bit thick. If there is no, or very little, threat in the scenario I set, then why do we need ant-virus software? I know there is a definite need for it, but I don’t really understand why the threat is low during the period(albeit short) before installing avast! after having uninstalled AVG. I’m not doubting the responses I have had. I’m just not clear how it all works.

Again, thanks for all the help. Much appreciated. Any added clarity would be great.

Best Regards,

Bobbler

Personally even though the risk might be slight if you have fast broadband, it is always better to first download and save (to your hard disk) the installation file of the AV you intend to install.

Then uninstall the current AV, reboot and then install the new AV using the saved installation file.

Thanks, DavidR. Sounds like the way to do it. Can’t ignore someone with seven gold stars! Scary to think just how good you are. Thanks again.

You should also download the removal tool for AVG before you remove your currenly
installed version of AVG. Once you have the installation program of avast! and the removal tool for AVG,
then you can disconnect from the internet.
You can download the AVG removal tool from:

You’re welcome.

The stars are just a forum ranking based on post count, I’m just another avast user like yourself.

Still, you’re a good helper Dave…!
