[possible false positive?]ragexe.exe

i got this warning after updated my virus definitions (09-1).

i don’t see any warnings before, and i have this game (Ragnarok online) since a month ago.

Test it at VT and post the result.

here’s the result

You can report a possible FP here: http://www.avast.com/contact-form.php?loadStyles

i have sent the mail… hope the team can read it soon (and fix it)

for now, i only can ignore the warning. if i choose delete file, i can’t play ragnarok online.

The VT results/scan won’t find anything on the VT scan, as it can’t replicate the rootkit scan that avast detected this on.

Avast is also saying it is a ‘Suspicious’ (I read that as not 100%) ‘Hidden’ object, ‘This may be a sign of malware activity.’ So it isn’t cast iron and you have to decide if it is a sign of malware infection.

Given that you know the file and its use, then that lessens those statements, ‘Suspicious,’ ‘Hidden’ object, ‘This may be a sign of malware activity.’ This is presumably a game guard/anti-cheat for the game and these do act like rootkits in the way they are hidden in the same way as rootkits to prevent gamers circumventing the anti-cheat.

If this has been on the system for some time and you have been using the game for some time, I would choose Ignore now that you have reported it, but don’t choose to remember your decision (probably in advanced options) as you would never know when avast corrects the detection on this file.

Did you give a link to this topic in your report, this is always handy as it give more information than gan be put in the report.

i always choose ‘ignore now’ every time that warning comes up. i never pick the option for ‘remember your decision’.

No problem, now we wait on the virus labs to correct, hopefully not too long.
