Possible Generic Trojan Help Needed

Ummm…I checked my main computer on my home network and the sucker is hiding there! Ity is running AVG. I want to remove AVG and install Avast like I did my laptop, but I want to get rid of this thing for good. IO have attached a cap of the results screen. HELP! :frowning:

Hi requiemdream,

I think that is the culprit of the problem, AVG and avast! conflicting. It was never a good idea to have two residental av solutions together. They start to detect each other, just like two bloodhounds fighting over a bone and you get less security and false positive detections of signatures as a reward. So uninstall all remnants of AVG with a good working uninstaller http://www.wikihow.com/Uninstall-AVG-Internet-Security-2012 , and then see if that comp is indeed infected. It might not be after all. Because of eeff.msi a question. Could n´t there been remnants of a McAfee install, maybe McAfee Security Plus…

Polonus,

I wish that were the issue, however I only installed Avast after I had a run-in with AVG over removal of the virus. It had already been detected by them before I installed Avast but, long story short, their poor customer service is what pushed me to installing Avast after I read customer reviews of the software. So, at that point I didn’t have Avast on my laptop. Currently, I do not have Avast on my main PC. Only AVG. So, there can’t be a conflict. However - You DO make a good point about the McAfee. I did install that McAfee security scan plus a few weeks back…but now it is not showing up. When I search for it, it says that it has been changed or moved. Could this be the source of my woes here?

No, I have only standard rights and when I try to change to administrative, it grays out the button so I can not make the change. That is a huge problem! It says I am admin, but I am not!

Well requiemdream,

Grasped that from what you showed in that image you posted. By default, McAfee EEFF msi is available in this location: [LOCAL APPDATA]\McAfee\ Common Framework \Current\EEFF_4000\Install\0000 … Task 1 On the client system, create a DWORD registry value in HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet \ Services \MfeEEFF called RelaxedRemovableMediaDefinition. … Task 1 On the client system, create a DWORD value in HKLM\System\CCS\ Service \MfeEEFF called ExemptNonRemovable and set its value to 1. Maybe magna86 will have a way to make sure that comes unhidden and uninstalled in the registry. I will take that up with this qualified removal expert. Discussion with you starts to be quite interesting as these are remnants that starts to play up foul at your computer, think of the sheer coincidence with your username here…
The rights issue can also be tackled by our friend, magna86. Every case here is a point of getting more removal experience…

:frowning: I’m sick. If I have to reformat I’m doomed…My name…yah…

Yes, if I try to create a new user account with admin rights, I save it, it reverts back to standard rights. None of my users have admin rights. Can’t change any of them to admin now. :frowning:

I can’t get to the LOCAL APP DATA

I ran Malware bytes and it found 6 hits. I have attached the txt.

If that is a valid detection, mind it is heuristical and for your printer software, this could be this malware: http://www.microsoft.com/security/portal/threat/Encyclopedia/Entry.aspx?Name=Trojan%3AWin32%2FTracur.AV
If you have an infected Windows system file, you may need to replace it using the Windows installation CD.

I believe it is real. I am afraid to do anything now. I ran Malware bytes to remove then rebooted and scanned again. It showed nothing this time. However, when I ran AVG on THIS computer (which I was intending to replace this morning UGH!) it caught it again. So, I am going to head over to their forum until I get this cleared up, so as to not wear out my welcome with you guys. I appreciate all you have done, however I fear a reformat is in the cards.

Hi requiemdream,

Keep us informed as how you fare. Welcome to our forums,

polonus

Will do! Plan on sticking with Avast anyway  Haven’t heard a word from them yet, btw. Ciao for now!

I thought I was doing good on my laptop here with Avast but I keep getting this message on some of my scans:
error: the system cannot find the path specified (3). I haven’t done anything yet, thought I would check with you guys first. Is the virus still lurking or is this something else? What action should I take, if any? Thanks, as always!

Sorry, I was not able to respond earlier…
