Possible problem with avast mail scanner

Hello,
sorry I am kinda new in here. It could be that this question has been posed before, so sorry if it has, I couldn’t find it anywhere in the forum.

Here is the problem:
I see in the system tray the avast mail scanner appearing every couple of seconds, seems like it’s trying to check my outgoing mail server.
Problem is that I don’t have outlook open, nor outgoing messages in waiting.
Anyone has a clue on what it could be?
Performing a full scan doesn’t return any results.
Tried also some spyware removers but even those can’t find what it is

WinXp
Avast 4 personal edition
tried to use: Spybot, Ad-aware, Hijackthis (even though I can’t interpret the results)
nothing seems to be able to tell me why avast keeps on checking my email service, which I repeat, keeps trying to check my outgoing mail server (smtp and sometimes even my incoming mailbox server)
The icon keeps poppin’ out on the tray (its a small icon with an envelope and if I keep the pointer on it it shows "avast mail scanner [mail.tin.it] (my email provider))

Thanks in advance for any clue you may have

Welcome to the forums, czexx!

Are you using any P2P programs? ???
It has been reported that some of these programs have used the normal email port … although that is against protocol. This might trigger a response from the mail scanner that is monitoring that port. :-\

Thank you, and thanks for the immediate reply

Actually I do, I use Limewire.
Fact is the icon keeps poppin out even when I don’t have my P2P program open.
And the icon doesn’t seem to increase its presence when the P2P is open. :frowning:

Ignore any 023 reference to avast processes, this is a hiccup in the HJT 1.99.1 (especially missing file entry for avast), if you need any help with any of the analysis let us know.

A screen shot of the pop-up or full description of the warning text would be helpfull.
