Early this morning I got a message warning me that a program called sireref was blocked, but the warning hasn’t appeared since. Do I need to take action?
What was the information on the detection, e.g. file name and location and or what avast shield or scan detected it ?
Unfortunately, I don’t know. It was my brother who actually caught the warning and he says he didn’t pay attention to the information.
If you can find out, by asking him what he was doing at the time the alert happened. That could lead to what shield detected it, web shield, file system shield or a scan that he was running. This then leads to what logs to look at for information on the detection.
Not paying attention to alerts could well leave you without your computer for a period of time, that certainly focuses the attention.
My brother says he thinks he was on YouTube at the time. Some Adobe updater popped up asking for permission to make changes to the computer. He kept trying to decline but to no avail so he shut down the computer.
I think the program in question is listed in our Avast chest, but I don’t know how to read its properties.
probably a fake adobe flash installer…
if run it often give you a rogue security program…or some other fun stuff.
if avast named it siref then it can be the latest popular rootkit the forum is full of
