However, I backed up files (Using a flashdrive) on the old Toshiba PC I wanted to transfer to my PC. When I backed up the files, SystemTool2011 was still installed (I backed up the files in case of an “emergency”), but was persumably inactive after it got “cleaned up” using Avast. I want to be VERY sure that the flashdrive is safe and not infected. How should I check for this? Is there any safe way to disinfect a flashdrive without the possibility of getting your computer infected in the process? Or vice versa?
In a nutshell: I want to be very sure that the flashdrive is safe to use to transfer files to another PC, without infecting any computers in the process.
Finally, I have one last question: Is it safe to leave a laptop plugged in all the time? Or is it better to keep it unplugged when using/inactive? Which is “harder” on the battery? My family is worried about laptops starting a fire because the old family PC started to smoke a little before it died.
Sorry for all the questions.
Thanks in advance!

I will try your suggestions.
I’ll report back sometime tonight or tomorrow.
EDIT: Oh sorry, I have more questions:
Since my Family PC had rouguewear (SystemTool 2011) + other malware on it (Though the malware was removed by MBAM etc… Though the roguewear wasn’t removed), does that mean that our network infected? If so, then the PCs that are connected to that network, according to Avast! and MBAM, are not infected somehow?
Is Avast! or MBAM a good program to use to check Removable Media for malware, spyware etc…? (I’m not even sure if spyware can infect removable media…)

Some homework for you...

Thanks for the link. I understood some of it, but I’m not too computer savvy. So I didn’t get all of it. I have very specific questions about malware sometimes, so I have trouble finding answers on the internet. That’s why I ask here. Sorry. ^^;
I’m still a bit worried about infecting my PC by the flashdrive (Since Avast! and MBAM haven’t always detected malware on my PC, though usually they do) or by connecting to the network, in case it was infected by my family’s old PC.
