hello this is my first post on these forums and while i do consider myself a computer techy im rather stumped here

my college network had a virus on there system the past week from waht they know but its probably been on there longer now the moment they said they had a virus on there network i didnt plug my hard drive into the the network anymore but the reason im saying i think it was on there for longer is because files on my external hard drive are being corrupted and then un corrupted, now it only seems to be affecting my external but i have the feeling it is on my main hard drive due to hijack this log file

i run both avg and avast simultaneously though i dont remember my avast protection password i setup (stupid of me i know)

my main issue is neither AVG or Avast are picking anything up on my main system or my rig any help would be appreciated

2 Anti Virus can conflict each other i can recommand to use Avast! only.

Then I suggest an installation from the scratch:

  1. Uninstall avast from Control Panel first.
  2. Boot.
  3. Download the latest version of Avast Uninstall and use it for complete uninstallation.
  4. Boot.
  5. Install again the latest avast! version.
  6. Boot.
  7. Check and post the results.

Duribun, you’re using Windows SP2 that has several security vunerablilities and Windows SP3 has been available for almost a year that has perfomance enhancements and several Critical Security Updates so in IE go to Tools then Windows Update then download and install all updates.

Set up the system for Automatic Updates by going to Control Panel then Automatic Updates then select Automatic (recommended) or at least Notify me but do not download or install them.

IE8 is now availabe an it has more security than IE6:
