Power Outage During Scan

Hi.

I was helping a friend… well, the short of it is that I turned off the monitor during a scan and she wasn’t thinking this morning and ‘turned on’ the pc. Yeah, it was still on, it was just the monitor that was off. She was supposed to turn the monitor on and check the scan results.

So, my friend shut the power off and now the pc will only boot in safe mode. Avast will not start in safe mode, so I have no idea what to do. System restore is off.

Can somone please help? Thanks in advance.

Which version of avast are you using?
You should be able to run avast and restore from Chest, uninstall avast, anything (except turn on the protection).

I installed Avast Free Antivirus 5 for her this weekend.

I wasn’t sure about going in trough safe mode and uninstalling it, or not. Safe mode is the only way the pc will boot and get her to the desktop.

So, you advise to uninstall and reinstall? Or, you think if I can get to the chest I should try and restore first? Does it matter, really?

Thanks.

Depends on which files did you send to Chest.
Restore to a safe place won’t hurt.
You can access Chest in Safe Mode and/or uninstall from there.

Well, I couldn’t get the program to start at all to access the chest so, I tried to repair through Add/Remove programs while in safe mode. That didn’t work, either so I uninstalled it. The pc still won’t boot except in safe mode.
