Friend who tried Avast 5 advised that Windows XP Monitor Power Saver settings would not work after he installed Avast 5 - monitor failed to turn off after 30 minutes of no activity. He uninstalled Avast 5 and the monitor would again turn off as it had been programmed to do. He’s now using a different AV program and the monitor still shuts off when it’s supposed to so it’s obvious that Avast was contributing to the “glitch.”
Has this been reported as a “bug” in Avast 5? Might be something Avast would want to try to fix in a future build.
I must say that you have a very flippant attitude about a potential glitch with the program. I thought Avast might want to check the complaint…in fact there may have been similar complaints and I or maybe even you do not know about it. If it’s happened to my friend it might happen or have already happened to others. And it’s obvious you could care less whether he tries Avast again.
I plan on installing Avast 5 on several friends’ computers who are still using Avast 4.8. I’ll try to remember to check for this glitch after I’ve installed the new program. If it happens to me I’ll post again on the forum and perhaps your attitude or at least that of the moderators will be different.
I’ve read on other forums where posters complain about the attitude on the Avast forum. I can see why they’re complaining. :o
i’m very sorry about that!
as it is the 1st of april today, i’m in a funny mood…
so, please don’t get me wrong, i’ll try to help you, if i can.
if you should run into problems with your install, here’s the place to go.
and i promise, i will stop trying to be funny!

Did your friend install free Avast! or the AIS version? Free Avast! doesn’t have a firewall to block things and doesn’t block my Toshiba Power Saver on multiple machines. Haven’t seen other reports of it either. But there could also have been Avast! activity within the last 30 minutes that could have caused the monitor not to shut down. Do you have any other information?
Asyn, my apologies about being “testy” in my earlier reply. Until I noticed the Google home page I forgot what today is.
sded, my friend was using the free edition of Avast 5.
DavidR, his OS is XP Home Edition and he was using the standard Windows power settings. Not sure about the brand monitor but it’s only about a year old.
I’m using Avast 5 on a laptop with XP pro and have not had a similar problem thus far.
If you three have not heard of this problem it may be an anomaly with that particular computer. If I obtain any more significant information or hear of (or see) this problem again I’ll repost on the forum.
Negative on the scans, DavidR. He worked with it for a couple of hours but the monitor would not automatically shut down as programmed so he finally uninstalled Avast 5. After uninstalling Avast 5 the monitor would then shut down as it should and the “power saver” settings now continue to work properly with a different AV program. He is unaware of anything on his computer that could have contributed to the problem. For the heck of it he may try Avast again after a new build is released.
