From your experience, does Prevx/SafeOnline free work with Avast’s sandbox feature? I know that it doesn’t work with Sandboxie free, and I was just wondering about it’s compatability with Avast’s sandbox.
Thanks for your input!

If you have avast Pro/AIS why not give it a try.
Well, I don’t currently have either one installed. I’m using another AV product that’s giving me a lot of trouble, and I’m seriously considering going back to Avast. I guess I could install a trial of either Avast Pro or AIS and test the sandbox with Prevx free, and I don’t mind doing that. I was just hoping maybe somebody had already been down that road and could shed some light on it for me before I actually take the leap…
Hopefully someone else will contribute to the topic that has both the avast Pro/AIS and Prevx.
Unfortunately it isn’t as simple as installing the trial version, if you still have the other AV installed (even if disabled) as that in itself could cause a conflict outside of any there might be with te avast sandbox and prevx.
Definitely. I’ll be removing the other AV before I do anything.
I have send sded a pm if he can help here
Greetz, Red.
I have run the Avast! Sandbox alongside of Prevx, but really haven’t experimented enough to see if/where there is interference. Prevx does block the OA Webshield and for some the green border of Run Safer, for example, but just haven’t played around with the Avast! sandbox. Basically once Prevx has protected a website, it won’t let outsiders touch it, but virtualized ??? I ran Firefox virtualized for a while, for example, got the red border and didn’t see any problems-other than that the sandbox wouldn’t let me roll in an update.
Thanks. I’m wondering, in your opinion, is there really even a need for a virtualized browser given what Prevx does? Would running it with Avast free be sufficient?
I run Prevx with Avast! free on another computer, but I am not really a big user of the virtualization feature anyway. Prevx tends to stop you from using bad things; sandboxes are more to let you go ahead and try questionable things and be able to conveniently undo them by emptying the sandbox. So really depends on how you use your system, but I look at them as more complementary. Issues like precedence or forcing Prevx permissions when running a sandbox are beyond me. A good place to ask would be at Wilders Prevx Support at http://www.wilderssecurity.com/forumdisplay.php?f=104 .
Thanks, sded. That was very helpful. I’m mainly concerned about my security when I travel and have to use less secure internet connections in hotels, etc. I don’t guess virtualization would help much with that, anyway. But it looks like Prevx definitely would.
Thanks again!
I also use PrevX/SafeOnline w/Avast Free with no problems. They do compliment each other and you can adjust your settings. For example I do a lot of financial things online so I keep my SafeOnline settings higher, but this does not interfere with Avast.
Thanks, that’s good to know! Just out of curiosity, do you use the free version of Prevx/SafeOnline (from Facebook), or the paid one?
I’d rather run the browser sandboxed than w/ PrevX. I very much doubt it will run sandboxed, see, even the recent SRWare Iron update broke, because… well, the way it “integrates” (or rather, doesn’t) with the browser completely sucks. Never worked w/ SBIE for sure.
I use the paid version.
