Pricing structure discourages 3rd year subscription

Been using Avast Internet security for a few years now and overall it works really well and does what it says on the tin. There’s a few extra features I’d like but overall top marks.

My renewal is due soon and I tend to cover 3 PC’s for either 2 or 3 yrs. However, I’ve noticed that the pricing structure is prohibitive for 3 yrs and does not make sense. I should point out that this is even before the current discounted offer.

For example, in dollars the price for 3 PC’s was:

One year: $49.99
Two years: $69.99
Three years: $139.99

That does not make sense. If you buy two years then $69.99 is a fair discount for buying into an extra year. But why would I choose 3 yrs at $139.99 ? If it was $99.99 then that would be more in line with a sensible pricing structure that values the customer into buying in longer term.

Ah, I hear you say, those first two prices have extra discount applied to them. On some products that might be the case but why is no discount applied to 3 yrs ?

The same also applies to the current discounts that have become available:

Up to 3 Pc’s, 1yr: $34.99
Up to 3 Pc’s, 2yr: $64.99

Ok, there some discount there. However, if I want 3 yrs for 3 PC’s then it’s $139.99.

Thats even more than $34.99 x3 which is $104.97

That just does not make sense. Essdentially customers are financially discouraged from buying into 3 yr subscriptions.

hey and welcome to the forum.

the homepage say that the license is for up to 3 pc for 2 years which is normally 129.99 but avast have spring clean discount for three more day so you get it for only 64.99 now.

hope this will give some understanding about the offer of avast

Yep, I went for one of those 2 yr deals as I still like the product.

However, the 3 yr deals (for 3 PC’s) still remain uncompetive and out of sync with the pricing structure. Essentially theres no incentive to go for 3 yrs but maybe thats what Avast want.

However, in my mind a consumer could “jump ship” after two years are try another product. If it was my product I’d try and keep my customers for as long as possible and reward them accordingly.
