Printer not printing all the time

I have a Lexmark S500 series printer & printing some things on my laptop it just will not print. Had to ring Lexmark the last time I had a problem but using their self check it seems this one is an Avast problem this time. I currently have typed up a document using Open Office & the last time I typed one it printed OK but not this time. I have the printer connected to the laptop by USB cable.

The Lexmark self check says lxebcoms.exe & lexbqbgw.exe have been blocked & I need the access list for Avast for the printer to print. Hope someone knows what I am talking about & can help as need to print off this document. Not that computer savy so easy instructions please.

What exact OS/SP ?
What exact version of avast and vps ?
Any other security related software installed ? (or did you)

GUI>Settings>General>scroll down to “exclusions”> click “file paths”>click “add”> then browse until you find the proper folder.

Eddy, sorry should have said. Windows 8.1 Definitions 15058.1 & program 2015.10.2.2218 the free version. Could not find VPS?

Para-noid thank u for the pop-up was able to follow that under settings but not sure what exactly I am supposed to be looking fo there. Did not see anything to do with my printer etc. Now have typed another document using Wordpad & now not even getting that pop-up window. The print window has a “find printer” listed so clicked on that & another window with a heading " please select the network u want to use & click on select to connect to it. I have Lexmark S500 series (USB) (USB) Lexmark S500 series & Microsoft XPS Document Writer listed under “Select Printer” & clicked on the 1st 2 & get a no where & on the 2nd window have added the 1st 2 printers with another pop-up saying" file name not valid"
