Pro 5 Upgrade to Internet Security Problems

I dowloaded the free version of Avast 5 to my 3 computers. Then I purchased the Internet Security and upgraded. I uninstalled Pro and installed IS. My computer running XP accepted the upgrade and has been working perfectly, the other 2 systems are running Vista and have not worked since. I tried to repair Avast, no luck. I tried to uninstall and reinstall, no luck. I did a system restore to back when I had Pro, this fixed the new IS problems, but now Pro will not load completely, says to “fix”, but that doesn’t work.
Some of the problems are: Windows sidebar stopped working. Live Mail (the new Outlook) crashes anytime I try to reply, create or forward a message. Some web pages will not load completely ie: when uninstalling Avast, it brings you to a “why are you uninstalling” page, can’t make a choice, links don’t work. My online banking site will let me log in, but none of the links work, I can only see the home page. On Facebook, it lets me sign in, but home page only has the header and footer, no content just a white space, but I can see my profile screen. Avast homepage does not load, but I can access Support from the header.
Please help!!

Then I purchased the Internet Security and upgraded. I uninstalled Pro and installed IS.
This should not be necessary as far as i know, If they all where avast 5 you could just enter the avast IS key in the avast free/pro and it would have transformed to avast IS ( just like transformers ;D ) The key decides what program you have/get

Have you tried the uninstall tools and then a reinstall?

avast 4.8 remover http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility
avast 5.0 remover http://public.avast.com/~forejt/aswClear.exe

I was told where I purchased it to follow the link http://files.avast.com/iavs5x/setup_ais_eng.exe and dowload IS. When I tried to install it told me I had to uninstall 5 first.
I have tried a total uninstall and reinstall with no luck. I tried aswclear but not the uninstall-utility link. Will try that and let you know.
Thanks,
Lisa

When I tried to install it told me I had to uninstall 5 first.
hmmmm.......may be it is different with IS since it have firewall and spam filter...... ???

I ran an uninstall from Control Panel. Then ran the aswClear program. Avast seemed to be gone from my system at restart, but the problems stayed. I did a complete new download of IS and installed it, but problems are still there. If I could figure out how to use the smileys I would have a Huh and a Cry!
Any other ideas?

The smileys  so you don`t see them in there, hmmm…you probably need 20 post before they arrive…

What antivirus did you have before you installed avast ? have you removed it?

At this rate, I will have smileys in now time!!
I had Kaspersky and yes, it has been completely removed.

Did you run kaspersky removal tool after uninstall ?

Nr.17 here http://uninstallers.blogspot.com/

how to http://support.kaspersky.com/faq/?qid=208279463

No luck, when I ran it message was :Kaspersky Anti-Virus was not detected". Too bad, I had my hopes up!

It may have removed some leftovers, so try a avast repair

For a repair of avast. Windows, Add Remove programs, select ‘avast! Anti-Virus,’ click the Change/Remove button from the pop-up window, scroll down to Repair, click next and follow.

I repaired and restarted computer…nope…Should I re-run everything in sequence? Run Kaspersky uninstall tool, uninstall Avast…?

you can try, and reboot between i am out of ideas…

Thanks Pondus. I will give that a try. Any idea where else I can go for help?

Well maybe someone in here have some ideas…

Thanks for your help, but it didn’t work either. I have sent a ticket to tech support, maybe they can offer some ideas. SO FRUSTRATED right now, have wasted almost 2 days trying to restore my system to what it was and I am no closer.
