I downloaded the pro and my computer is still showing not protected. The avast ball in the tray has a red line (i guess indicating no protection.) The security center also indicates there is no virus protection.
What did I do wrong?
Thank you for any help.
John
Have (or did) you another AV installed in this system, if so what was it and how did you get rid of it ?
Yes I had the free version (home). Then I had some other issues with my computer and did a system restore. After that the home edition didn’t work and I couldn’t remove it. I went to the Avast site for the removal tool and it worked great. I reinstalled the Pro and thast is where im at. I have been running the avast virus scan and so far no virus. But its the protection that isn’t working.
Thank you for your quick response.
The windows security center (WSC) has had issues like this in the past either not detecting avast or saying it isn’t running.
The Red ‘circle’ with a bar over the ‘a’ icon if it remains doe indicate avast isn’t running resident and is a better indication than the WSC.
What avast processes are running in Task Manager, they begin with ash or asw, see image ?
What other security software do you have, anti-spyware, firewall, etc. ?
What Operating System are you using ?
So no other AVs before avast home ?
I suggest an installation from the scratch:
- Uninstall avast from Control Panel first.
- Boot.
- Download the latest version of Avast Uninstall and use it for complete uninstallation. If, for any reason, you can’t run it, try booting in Safe Mode and doing it from there.
- Boot.
- Install again the latest avast! version.
- Boot.
- Register your avast copy (add the license key).
- Check and post the results.
