Hey I recently installed a language pack (std English to Irish) for Win Xp. Since then Avast on access scanner must be started manually every time which is a pain…checked msconfig and the startup items are there an enabled? Any idea what has gone wrong here?
Thanks
Can you be a little more specific, please?
What exactly did you install (sorry, I’m not familiar with WinXP language packs) - what does it affect? What happens - avast! icon doesn’t show, or it shows as disabled, or… ?
sorry it has taken me so long to reply…the language pack simply translates all standard XP apps from english text to gaelic equivalent. On startup the Avast icon is displayed as normal but disabled. Next the windows security centre will pop up warning me I have no AVS protection. First thing I do is manually enable Avast i.e. right click on icon then start on-access protection. Its a nuisance more than anything else. I have SP2 installed. Sorry again for the delay! hope someone reads this.
Ocathais, I won’t be able to help you as your problem is very specific and I don’t have this knowleage…
Anyway, can you give us more info? Does any other program hang as the same as avast?
Are these other programs written in English too?
Can you try to repair your installation?
Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove programs > avast! antivirus > Remove. Then choose Repair function in the popup window (Repair). You must be connected to the internet while repairing.
If this does not help, can you uninstall / boot / install / boot again?
