Problem Backing up Settings

Avast AV Free 11.2.2262, Win 7 Pro x64, 2x1Tb HDD + 8Gb RAM. Running as Administrator

While attempting to back up my Avast settings I repeatedly get the error (using any path to any drive):

“Error while exporting settings. The system cannot find the path specified.”

I have tried:

Repair (via Programs & Features) - no go: same error
Uninstall Avast
reboot to Safe Mode
run avastclear.exe
reboot
manually clean up leftovers in registry & on drives
reboot

Download & install latest Avast Free from Avast website (still v11.2.2262, it seems)
reboot
register Avast

All no go - same error.

Any ideas at all anyone?

Alan

I’m using the latest beta version and also have a problem backing up the settings:

I’ve reported this topic to Avast. Let’s see what they have to say. :slight_smile:

Thanks Bob. Glad I’m not the only “victim” :wink:

I’ll hold off reporting it to Avast & see if anyone replies to your issue.

I have just tried it as I have used this quite frequently in the past. Since I don’t use Passwords, either for protection of avast settings or have the avast Passwords function, I have that option unchecked.

Worked just fine on my winXP system, just about to test on my win7 system and again settings have been successfully exported. Avast 11.2.2262 on both systems.

I also select my own backup location and not the default location.

That’s strange Bob i just tried to reproduce here on internal version and works fine. We will release this tomorrow to beta channel so please try it again tomorrow with the new beta… Thanks

@Bob:
did you try the new Beta yet: any change?

@DavidR:
I, too, use no Passwords and have a custom backup destination, but it matters not where (or with what filename) I try to backup to: “Error while exporting settings. The system cannot find the path specified.” dialog tediously reappears :-\

FWIW, Restore from backup works fine.

Sorry can’t update to what apparently isn’t yet available ???

Strange, doing a backup on my 32 bit system worked without incident:

That could be significant, given that both of my systems are 32bit versions of the OS and both completed successfully.

Now on Beta 12.1.2266 and still not working on 64 bit system:

Well… no more replies or any resolution (not that I expected any) but…

FWIW, I just installed the latest AIS (and licensed it) and the problem exists there, too :-[

Give it a try with the avast self defense disabled Bob.

That’s unfortunately not the answer. Same error after disabling, restarting as before. :frowning:

At least it ruled something out.
