Problem: CD/DVD drive problem

Hello,

Since Avast version 5, I encountered a strange problem that didn’t occur in former Avast versions: my CD/DVD drive has stopped functioning. I can write/burn to a disk, but reading it and loading a program, data content or game will not work. The drive is busy reading, but Windows Explorer is not responding for several minutes (freezes) and finally gives me an error message, which varies.

If I temporarly disable Avast shields, the problem does not occur and the CD/DVD driver is working without any problem.

Specs:
Windows Vista Home Premium (32 bit) - Intel Core 2 Quad CPU 2.40 GHz 4.00 Gb RAM
CD/DVD drive: TSSTcorp CDDVDW SH-S223Q (Samsung) (latest firmware/driver installed)

I hope anyone can offer a solution, thanks in advance.

Hi,

Can you be specific as to which version you are using? Is it version 5.1.889?

Can you uninstall the behavior shield only(see pic) via control panel(control panel > programs > programs and features> select avast > uninstall/change) and see if it works?

Hello,

Thanks for your reply.

My Avast version is 5.1.889. The problem started earlier, although I dont know with which exact version, since I didn’t link the problem to Avast, I assumed it was a broken CD/DVD drive.

Uninstalling the behavior shield as you mentioned solved the problem. CD/DVD drive is working fine now.

Hello again,

a follow-up: I reinstalled the behavior shield and now my problem is solved, my CD/DVD drive works correctly again, with the behavior shield up and running. I assume my copy of Avast was damaged.

Thank you for your help, much appreciated.

You’re Welcome.
