Hello, I seem to be having an issue converting my license file, I was converting mine and received the following email:
Dear customer,

with the e-mail address you specified.
Please make sure the information you supplied is correct, and
the original purchase was carried out using this email address.

Best regards,
the avast! team
My old email address got hacked some time ago and I have honestly forgot the address, but I need my license file because I wish to enjoy the full benefits of Avast 5. I do hope you will be able to help me.
Then tell them that your old email address got hacked or you have forgotten it. Send an email to sales (at) avast (dot) com with as much information as possible.
But I’m sure you can understand their reluctance to send ‘your’ license to an email address they have no record of.
Another point, why would you need to convert your license ?
If you downloaded avast 5.0 and saved it on to your hard disk. Then run the installation file with 4.8 still installed and it can retain (and convert) the license details from the 4.8 installation. It then uninstalls 4.8 and installs 5.0.
I sent the email to sales, I hope they understand. And I no longer have 4.8 installed, I uninstalled it, then I reinstalled Avast 5.0 and it did no conversions whatsoever.
You could get the Pro trial version, which allows you 30 days unrestricted use.
However, if you have had it installed before it might detect that and further restrict the trial to 6-7 days. This is an anti-piracy measure to stop people constantly reinstalling the pro trial version.
There is no key required in the trial version for 30 days, after that if you manage to get your old license converted and use that. avast 5.0 uses a license file system.
