Problem Hibernating

Hello:

I installed the Avast 4.7 Home edition in my personal laptop (Sony Vaio) with Win XP Pro. I cannot get the PC to Hibernate.

What settings do I have to change to be able to hibernate the machine?

Thanks.

You shouldn’t have to change anything if you used the default avast settings. If however you have it set-up to either run the VRDB when the screen saver is running or scan your system when idle, then you would need to disable those functions and do those tasks manually.

But I can’t think of anything in the default set-up that would/should stop your laptop going into hibernation.

Is there any error message or anything into Windows Events?

I tried disabling VRDB, but still cannot get the laptop to Hibernate.

Error message in Windows Events claims it could not establish event queries with WMI to monitor 3rd party anti-virus and firewall.

No success yet. If I unistall Avast, the pc will hibernate OK, but when I install it back, the problems persists.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks.

I’m sorry I haven’t come across this before in the forums and other than the two things I mentioned I can’t think of anything else. Hopefully someone with some experience of laptops may have some ideas.

Which antivirus did you have in the past, I mean, before avast?
WMI monitoring troubles could be related to ‘trash’ left behind by Norton Antivirus… :-[

Which firewall do you have?
