Please forgive me but I’m very new to avast and UNIX. Using Sun Solaris 10 (08/07) X86 Platform 32bit.
I began the install process of AVAST for UNIX with first decompressing the .tar files and followed the readme file. In both cases when I ran either engine using ./mkinstall.sh each output resulted in an error please see below:
cp: cannot access ./lib/libavastengine-4.so.7.0.1
chmod 755 /user/lib/libavastengine-4.so.7.0.1
chmod: WARNING can’t access /usr/lib/libavastengine-4.so.7.0.1
Linking libavastengine-4.so>libavastengine-4.so.7.0.1 in /usr/lib.
Linking libavastengine.so>libavastengine-4.so.7.0.1 in /usr/lib.
Installation Failed
Other engine resulted in below:
cp: cannot access ./lib/libavastengine-4.so.7.0.2
chmod 755 /user/lib/libavastengine-4.so.7.0.2
chmod: WARNING can’t access /usr/lib/libavastengine-4.so.7.0.2
Linking libavastengine-4.so>libavastengine-4.so.7.0.2 in /usr/lib.
Linking libavastengine.so>libavastengine-4.so.7.0.2 in /usr/lib.
Installation Failed
In both cases the file libavastengine-4.so.7.0.1 or libavastengine-4.so.7.0.2 did not load on the user/lib. I looked on the CD and after could not find the files I assume expected to be present.
Any suggestions. My boss is on me about getting this system protected but I don’t think I can move beyond this point can I? A million thanks in advance for any help. Please keep in mind I’m new to UNIX. Johnny Mac
Hallo,
Solaris, although elf-based and x86-based, uses different version of avast (thus, you are trying to install the wrong package). The simplest method is to get the *.pkg.gz packages, gunzipping them, and (as root) installing them using pkgadd -d xxx.pkg .
Again forgive me for not being a Solaris Admin. As understand you the files I’m downloading are the correct files and when I decompress the .tar files I will find a some .pkg.gz files among them and those pkg files I need to perfrom a package add (pkgadd -d xxx.pkg )?
I’m home today and will check for your response.
Monday I will look for the .pkg files among the files I’ve downloaded yesterday. On the website I just downloaded the below named files from the “avast! 4 for Linux/Unix Servers Download”
I can not find the *.pkg.gz packages. I orginally downloaded the below Kernel files located on the avast website, which were designed for LINUX/UNIX. Should I be looking elsewhere?
Took some reading about what is gunzip and now I understand what you mean. At this point I guess my question is where can I locate the *.pkg.gz packages on avast’s website?
When I download the file on to my Windows PC and before I walk it over to the Soloaris box the file extension is .tar - here is the file name libavastengine-4.7.4-i586-freebsd4.tar[1]
When I look on the Solaris box the file name is lib_0001.tar. Forgive me but if I view this file on my Solairs box should I see a file with a extension of .tar.gz or .pkg.gz?
When I type gunzip-d, and include the path and file name lib_0001.tar the response is,
Unknown suffix … ignored
I imagine it is looking for the extension tar.gz Ok I admit I am very to to unix and I am at a loss I know whatever I’m doing wrong is obvious but any help would make my day.
Ok now have the right files libavastengine-4.7.1-sun4u.pkg.gz
avast4server-3.0.0-sun4u.pkg.gz, whew! Big thanks to cimbal.
Unpackaged them succesfully (so I think) but regardless of what I type I keep getting
usr/bin/avastcmd: Invalid Argument
If I type man avastcmd, I can see all my options but nothing works. For example if I type want to scan my Temp Directory I type… avastcmd /tmp … I get … usr/bin/avastcmd: Invalid Argument
I have not rebooted my server nor was I asked for a Licenses file. Any clues? Using Sun Solairs 10 (8/07) 5.10 32bit on a X86 platform.
The issue was the version of the package. Avast tech support is awsome. They pointed me to a link where I could download the Solaris 10 AVAST packages. The install was easy and the man pages are really good. My next step is to locate a file which “acts” like a virus and ensure my software identifies the virus.
