problem installing avast 4.8 home on vista

Hi, I’m new here and I’m having trouble installing the Avast 4.8 home edition on windows vista at the moment.

Everything goes well to the point where I’m loading the programme for the 1st time after the installation. During the first load (scanning memory etc) to open Avast there is an “unknown error” with “usiGetSkin (failed)” and if I go to the FAQ link provided there is no fix to the .dll in the list for Vista. I tried to run the XP command for it, but then get an error 0x80020009 message instead. Please help!

Avast there is an "unknown error" with "usiGetSkin (failed)"
Try to repair avast going Control Panel>Add and Remove Programs>Avast>Repair(scroll down if you cant find the repair)

IF this not working than try uninstall avast then reinstall avast.

Hi and thanks for your quick reply!

For some reason Avast doesn’t show in the list of programmes at all. ???
If I search for it, it finds a folder from the programme files, but why isn’t it showing in the control panel’s list of add/remove programmes?

(I’m really starting to resent Vista to be honest… :P)

Download this program aswclear.exe

I don’t get it. ???

What I mean is I go to: start → control panel → add/remove programmes
This loads a list of all the programmes on the PC, but Avast doesn’t show up at all.

I’m not removing the programme folder, or what I can and will try to reinstall…

Sorry i just wrongly read. Download this program aswclear.exe and run it. After that reinstall avast.

Sorry Im felling very bad today.

Ive just had a vista computer and although i didnt have any problems installing avast ,i had many others installing other programmes from office 07 to simple programes…Turning off the UAC has so far fixed all the installation problems ive encountered. If you wish to try this click control panel>user accounts>turn user account control on of off> untick and reboot. If it works for you ,you can renable UAC after you have installed. You may also want to look at tweakuac if the above works for you.
