I see no problem in this part of the log.
Please, post the last 350 lines of it.

Any other antivirus in this computer? Had in the past?

I have exactly the same issue with my computer on Windows XP SP3 and the log stops right there. There are no 350 more lines.

Post limit of 10000 characters hinder me to post the full log but the rest should be quite meaningless…

Use 4-5 posts to post the full log (the latest 350 lines…).

I have attached the log.

I do not have any other AntiVirus
I tried in the normal windows mod and in the SafeMode for exact same results.

This is the full log in debug mod. no more lines after that… only difference with my previous post is that before I cut the lines in the middle to respect the 10000 limit…

I’m not sure. The log seems ok, except for a thing I do not know how to interpret:

24.03.2009 09:10:34 file: Error GetDiskFreeSpaceEx(Vo\):0x00000003

Do you have free disk space?

Yes I have. Like 100GB+
But I think the problem might be related to the fact that the folder are compressed. Looks like some program don’t like to be installed on compressed folders or Hard Drives.

Why compress the hard drive if you have over 100 GB free? It just slows things down.

Or do some house keeping and get rid of some junk.

One of the largest hard disk space hogs is good old system restore, you can limit the size if it which I believe by default would use up to 10% so on a large HDD that could be a lot. My Computer, View System Information, System Restore tab, Settings button.

And this would free up a fair amount of HDD space.
– Create Clean Restore Point - Clear old Restore Points.

Now you are clear of infection create a clean System Restore point:

  1. Click Start, All Programs, Accessories, System tools, System Restore.
  2. In the pop-up that appears fill in the radio button to Create a Restore Point
  3. Click NEXT
  4. Enter a useful name that you will remember if you need to find this again (Clean Restore Point)
  5. Click CREATE

You now have a clean restore point, you should clear the old ones:

  1. Click Start, All Programs, Accessories, System tools, Disk Clean Up
  2. Click OK on the C: drive
  3. Click the More Options tab
  4. In the System Restore section click the Clean Up button

Or
Install a 2nd hard disk, these are relatively cheap at the moment even for 500GB+

In the past, I had no problems with compressed folders and avast…

You can force an installation by this command on the folder you’ve download and save the install file: setupeng.exe /forceinstall
Where setupeng.exe is the name of the executable.

To debug, add the following lines to setup.ini (in avast4\setup):
[BufferLog]
Enable=1

Then start update again, and SetupDbg.log should be generated. Post the contents here, it should give us a clue at which step it crashes.

I do not get to update. I can’t install. I even uncompressed the folders for no changes.

/forceinstall doesn’t get me farther than before. I still ends with the exact same log as before. the the same error on the GetDiskFreeSpaceEx.

I have the same problem when trying to install and same log. Wondering if this could be the problem ?

08.03.2009 18:39:19 registry: Error deleting registry: Software\Alwil Software\Avast\4.0\UpdateReady (0x00000005)

Please advise, thank you

blaster, you’re having a different issue I think. Error (5) means that you don’t have permission.

I don’t know if you have Vista, or XP, or what, but you may need to install Avast as an administrator user (On Vista, right-click the avast setup file, and click, “Run as administrator”).

If that has already been done, it could be a problem where avast can’t access the update site. Maybe due to a virus / malware /rootkit /host hijack or whatever infection. Also could be a proxy issue. Or a host of other things, like old Anti-virus programs still lingering on your system or a firewall blocking access.

It might be beneficial to start your own (new) topic specific to your problem. Unless of course something from this topic fixes your problem…

For those having this problem of Avast not being able to install successfully with this error message on the error log.

C:\Users\myname\AppData\Local\Temp_av_sfx.tm~a03152\prod-av_pro.vpu ended with 0000000

This is what I did to solve the problem.

  1. Download Avast Uninstall Utility from http://www.avast.com/eng/avast-uninstall-utility.html
  2. Run it from safe mode
  3. Startup windows normally and run the setupeng.exe installer.

Now it installs without any problems. Hope the steps above helps anyone out there.

Well the entry you posted as an error, actually isn’t an error, the 00000000 (0) = The operation completed successfully.

Whilst there might be another error, this entry isn’t an error.
