Problem Installing

I’ve tried to install several times and after going through a few screens, I get the following error

What can I do to get by this error, or fix the problem??

Hi jbrdbr111…

Is this Windows XP and have you just uninstalled another AV before attempting to install Avast?

Best Regards…

No, I do not have any other AV on my pc, and I am runing Windows 98 se.

Although avast was mentioned in the drive by error message the faulting module is what you should be looking at “module KERNEL32.DLL at 016f:bff7a3d4.” So it is a kernel32.dll error and these can happen for numerous reasons and are often very difficult to pin down. Ensure you have the latest updates available for win98 for elimination purposes if for nothing else.

Is this a regular occurrence, or just a one off ?

I’ve never had the Kerndel32.dll pop-up during an install. . Although as I was typing this, I got a Kernel32.dll error at random… Mabe I have a virus, or something major is wrong…

I haven’t changed anything to make an error happen, so I am clueless about what to do…

I’m a little confused too, I thought you were reporting this error on install, that and the Topic Title ‘Problem Installing.’

I've tried to install several times and after going through a few screens, I get the following error ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- AVAST caused an invalid page fault in module KERNEL32.DLL at 016f:bff7a3d4.

From a simple google search for Kernel32.dll error, it returns thousands of hits this just happened to be the first. As I said there can be many, many reasons for a Kernel32.dll error.

Was this exactly the same error format and content as the first you reported ?

Although a virus could be an option, I would think it unlikely but you could use an on-line scanner, pause standard shield during any scan so as not to have a conflict.

Being that you are using W98SE, I would guess that there must have been some anti-virus program in use in the past. If so, what was it and how was it uninstalled?

It’s the same error as I first posted, and I have not had any other anti-virus installed. or recently removed from my computer.

I was able to install other programs just fine, but with avast I got the kernel32 error…

Hi jbrdbr111…

Although at this point it could any one of a number of causes, I would first run an online virus scan to rule that out. Here is Trend Micro’s site…
