Hi Since yesterday I have been unable to receive emails to my outlook express account it says receiving mail at the bottom but then gives me the folllowing error message

A time-out occurred while communicating with the server. Account: ‘pop.ntlworld.com’, Server: ‘pop.ntlworld.com’, Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC19

Could anybody help me with this please?

My boyfriend has an account on the same pc and I am just the 2nd identity on the account and his works fine.

Google is your friend.

Which antivirus do you use?
Which antivirus did you have in the past? How did you uninstall it?
Do you use a firewall?

Hi thanks for replying, I looked at this but couldn’t find the file

I use PC Guard that comes free with virginmedia, this is the only anti virus etc that I use and have ever used

Did the problem start recently, I mean was it working before.Or is this a new email account.Do you know if the emails contained attatchments.

Hi yes it started about 3 days ago, it’s an account I’ve been using for over a year and it has never done it before it’s always been fine

Have you tried sending yourself an email. According to virgin,pc guard blocks email attatchments

PCguard creates a proxy for email scanning. In order to receive email attachments via POP3, you must disable this. To disable this please follow these steps:

  1. Open PCguard.
  2. Click on the Anti-virus section.
  3. Remove the tick next to ‘Scan incoming email messages and attachments (POP3)’.
  4. Click ‘OK’.

This will disable the proxy but not the real-time scanning for viruses. If a virus is activated from an email, it will still be detected.
Try sending yourself an email

Thank you Mickey77 it worked - Thank god for that I would have never known how to fix it. Thanks a million

Can someone confirm for me that this thread had nothing to do whatsoever in the slightest with avast or users of avast?

I am just seeking confirmation - that’s all.

Well I thought it did…until the middle. ??? Here I was looking for some more email wisdom from you.

But somehow she ended up in the right place to get her answer. ;D

seemed key to me.

This is a product I have never tested so, of course, it is also one on which I would not comment.

Your right, it didn’t but, this isn’t the first nor the last person to come here for help and getting it.

Plus they didn’t have to put up with the insults they would no doubt have to endure if it was similar to AVG forum.
