I am having a problem receiving emails. This started with the 2014 Avast update. The problem appears to be intermittent. It happened a week or so ago and then after about two days went away. Now it is back.
Windows XP (up to date)
Thunderbird email client 24.1.1
Dell Latitude D830
Problem: When I try to send an email I get this error message from Thunderbird “An error occurred while sending mail. The mail server responded: 5.7.1 <[email address]>: Relay access denied. Please check the message recipient [email address] and try again.”
Then if I turn off “scan outbound mail (SMTP)” in Avast or the mail shield altogether and then try to send an email I then get this error message from Thunderbird “Sending of message failed. The message could not be sent because the connection to SMTP server smtp.lightlink.com timed out. Try again or contact your network administrator.” lightlink.com is my email provider.
I am able to receive emails fine.
So can anyone help me out here.
Thanks,
David
