Hello,
I turned on my computer earlier today to get a message from Avast that my free trial had expired. I did what was required to get a new license key. I got the customary email from Avast with my new license key and the accompanying instructions. That’s when my problems began! I’ll copy and paste my email to Avast support to save myself the time of retyping my issue:
"Hello,
I’m trying to register the above license key you sent, but I’m having all sorts of difficulty. After I opened the Free Antivirus controls, and clicked Settings I couldn’t find the word "Registration anywhere! I accessed the FAQ article you provided, where it said, “Right-click on the Avast orange ball icon in the system tray and select Registration information from the menu.”
Again, I didn’t see the words “Registration information” anywhere when I did this! I did see a tab entitled Subscriptions Information when I right clicked the Avast orange ball icon, but nothing happened. Next I clicked Settings again, and when the Settings screen appeared, I clicked the “Subscriptions” tab to see what that would yield me, but that just showed me the paid subscriptions for Avast Internet Security, Avast Cleanup, and Secureline VPN. I’m really getting frustrated, aggravated, and annoyed >:( by what should be a simple renewing and activation of my free antivirus, and I would greatly appreciate whatever help you can offer to resolve this ASAP please.
It is or should be here AvastUI > Settings > Registration, see attached image1.
IN that Registration tab, it will show if you can register - the email reminder may come before the avastUI changes to be able to register. This normally happens 30 to 28 days before re-registration is due. Otherwise your screen would look like my attached image2. I have 73 days remaining so the interface hasn’t changed and doesn’t allow for re-registration.
The Registration tab in the free version also takes into account paid versions needing to subscribe, I would just ignore that Your Subscription heading and look below that.
If as I said above your days remaining is less than 30-28 days there should be an ability to A) enter the key you were sent or B) register from the user interface. The Insert activation code or Insert license file both relate to paid versions of avast (upgrading from a free version), these aren’t valid for entering the free registration.
Hey David,
I have Avast open now, and I still don’t see “Registration.” Where it says “Registration” in both of your screenshots, the word Subscription is its place. So how do I get to the User interface you were talking about please?
If you have the paid versions of Avast installed, it will say Subscriptions. Evidently, if running Avast Free, it will show Registration. Evidently, you still have the paid Trial installed. Did you purchase a subscription?
If not, then you may need to uninstall the paid version. During the uninstall, you will have the option to revert to Avast Free.
Hey Gopher John,
I have the free version. But my problem is fixed now. I discovered that I had to update Google Chrome, and then Avast corrected itself! Go figure!
