Problem sending big attached files

weird :o
try a repair of Avast
control panel, add/remove, avast, remove/change, repair
reboot after doing so and see it the problem is solved.

Still gives the same stuff after the repair!

Guess it’s unistall & re-install… :-\

Can you think of anything that could have caused this?

Could be anything, little power problem, interference from other application etc.

  1. remove Avast
  2. run the uninstall util from avast’s website
  3. reboot
  4. install avast

Let’s see if this solves it.
You even may want to use the latest version (beta)

I’ll uninstall & reinstall this weekend, things are a bit hectic at the moment…

I’ll let you guy’s know on Monday what the “results” are!

Thanx again for all the help…

Firts time in over a Year that i have a problem with avast, so Great Program Guy’s

Have you terminated the Internet Mail provider (if you are only using MS Outlook) as suggested some time ago because your image still shows it running?

I don’t know if there may be some form or interaction between the Internet Mail provider and Outlook/Exchange, but terminate the Internet Mail provider if you don’t need it and then there can’t be any (potential) interaction between the two.

I would suggest you try this before doing the uninstall, boot, install.

I do use other email providers than outlook, so that's why i leave internet mail provider running!!!

Oops,

When ‘BadBoyTazz4Ever’ finds this “[Now Where Did I Put The Number For My Optomitrest…]” I trust he will send me it ;D

These are large high resolution digital pictures to be used for printing purposes. She often gets around the problem by sending one at a time but that does make for more work. I will suggest the idea of disabling the scan of outbound email and see how that goes.

That would probably be best to temp disable smtp scanning sends these then enable again, especially over dial up as the upline will only be 33.6KB per sec, so it would take absolutely ages.

Welcome to the forums.

I have had the same problem, in the last several days, sending attached files. I run on a dsl connection, and could not send two files, half a megabyte in size. So far, I have followed the advice and cancelled the scan of outgoing attachments - and I will wait to see if the uninstall / reinstall works. I just thought it would be of some value to report the same problem on another system.

I run Windows XP, using a dsl connection (1500 / 128), and I have been sending attachments before the last week or two with no problem. I can’t really pinpoint when this problem developed.

Hey Guy’s!!!

Well i did the unistall (using the unstall tool on the site) & re-install did all the updates, ect…

The problem still seems to remain… I’ve terminated the Internet Mail provider just to test if changes anything, but sofar i still get the timeout!

Like oxnardprof said, my problems also started with in the past week, before that i could send & recieve like mad, about 4day’s before the trouble started i downloaded 16MB worth of mail with out a single hitch, then sometime last week i started struggling to recieve mail firts, i could send as big as i wanted but recieving was a bitch, now both is a bitch… i’m biggining to wonder if it’s not my provider, but all my friends have the same provider & they don’t have a day’s trouble…

Now this might be a stupid Q: If i use outlook do i need to set up the SMTP settings in Avast cause for the past year i have used it with out trouble with out the smtp setting…

Edit: I’m going to DLoad the new beta version & try it out…

Can you post a screenshot?
Are you using Outlook plugin or not?

I’ll post it again but you can just have a look at the post “Posted by: BadBoyTazz4Ever Posted on: October 28, 2005, 10:37:30 AM” everythng is the same ecept, that i terminated the internet mail provider…

You should first try extending the timeout delay as disabling (permenantly) the outbound scan could leave you sending infected emails should your system ever become part of a bot network.

What would be helpfull is what email client you use and have you done any security updates recently?
What sort of size are the attachments, is it for a specific type of attached file (.exe, etc.), does it happen for all attachments regardless of size?

I am using Outlook. The size of the attached files were: jpg (~500kb on one message) and a combination of doc (small) and pdf (1 Mb) in another message. Disabling outbound scan solved the problem.

Recent security update (in last several weeks) was upgrade of ZoneAlarm free edition to the latest version. Could ZoneAlarm cause a conflict with outgoing messages?

I can try extending the timeout, but I have a hard time believing that the upload should take that long - and neither should Avast’s scan of the attached documents.

Sure, the scanning of that files could prevent (in some systems) the correct working, but it could be corrected, I mean, we should be able to find what’s wrong…

I would say no… but ashMaiSv.exe is allowed to connect? Can you receive mail (scanned by avast) without problem?

Hey Guy’s!!!

Sorry i haven’t replyed yet, but i haven’t had time to check my mail at home again…

Things are crazy at work get home at 2100

As soon as i check mail agian i post results…

(message moved to a new thread, per recommendation on response to my original message.)

I think it would probably be better on a different new topic, it is not really related as secure email add a different complexity (a little more specialised) to the equation and may cause confusion or difficulty following the original topic.
