get error message on splash screen. “Unknown Error” “storage cannot be created for the splash task.”
Then " The requested resident task was not found." “The operation can not be complete.”
Then “Uknown Error” “Configuration is not loaded properly.” “Error: dbsd createobject.”

Your problem is bad or old ODBC or MS Jet drivers. My sugestion is to update your system components. Download following patches from Microsoft site:

http://www.microsoft.com/data/download_Jet4SP3.htm
Install them and try to run avast! again. When you will have still problems do the following:
- find avast4.ini file located in Data subfolder of avast! installation
- change value of key “Database” from ODBC to XML
