Problem starting/uninstalling/reinstalling Avast

Hi, a couple of days ago i had a system crash and i had to run a system restore to get working again. Once my computer was back up and running i noticed Avast was loading up but not starting any of the shields and when i tried to manually start them it wouldnt do anything. I then tried to repair avast and i got this error: “Error Reading Product Data From “C:\ProgramFiles\part-setup_ais-ffffffff.vpx”. Setup cannot continue.”.

So i did some searching and found a few posts about it (https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=112242.0 https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=97779.0) But after trying the clean uninstall and making sure there were no traces left of avast anywhere and then trying a clean install using the installer from avast i still have the same problem so im out of ideas.

  • Which OS? Win 7 64 bits
  • Which avast-version? Free
  • Which program version? I believe i had the latest version although i cant check now as i deleted already lol
  • Other security related software installed? None

Try the new beta, it’s very stable.

Download and save http://files.avast.com/beta9x/avast_clear.exe
Download and save http://files.avast.com/beta9x/avast_free_antivirus_setup.exe
Download and save RejZor’s avast cleanup tool http://rejzor.wordpress.com/avast-cleanup-tool/ (scroll to bottom of the page)

Uninstall using “avast clear”. You will prompted to reboot into safe mode…click “yes”.
Reboot
Run RejZor’s tool.
Reboot
Install avast free.
Reboot and register.

Note: the beta (2020) has fixes to prevent bad installs.

Thanks for this tip but avast seems to have fixed itself since earlier, no idea how but im not complaining lol. If it does stop working again i will try this though

Forget the beta/RC build as that phase is over and there is a new release (R4) of avast, now version 9.0.2021.

You should be able to update via your avast! User Interface.
