hello
I installed avast for some time, I think I made a try of the pro version and now that it has expired, I can not find how to activate the free version, I registered an account and obtained a key, in the help of avast they say to enter the key you have to go into Maintenance => registration, but I don’t have that, I have Maintenance => subscription and when I did (insert the code activation) or there is a box to enter the key but it is not enough to get all the key
You can’t enter the free code in this trial version it is expecting a paid version license/activation code.
It doesn’t look like you updated from within avast free but installed this trial version directly ?
From the avastUI > Maintenance > Subscription, scroll down to Other Options and the “Switch me back to avast! free” is this option there.
If so you may be able to revert to avast free without too much trouble - If not you will have to reinstall avast free.
You have to uninstall, reboot into safemode, run aswclear, reboot back to normal mode and reinstall the product.
I wish this problem, and related issues, would be acknowledged “officially”, but so far no comments.
Seems the relationship between the free and the paid version is so tenuous, one can slip into the other
at the least little thing. System Restore is known to invoke this switcheroo, at least in XP.
The process of pushing the paid version seems to have had an affect on the stability of the free version.
Why all the tricks to get people to use/pay/trial the paid version?
Instead of tricks, it should offer real value that speaks for itself and that should be enough.
I have been having this same problem with the ‘Activate Now for Pro’ pop up. I haven’t touched anything so it looks like they may have set these things to happen.
In Maintenance it says, Trial period is Not Activated and no updates will come down until I do. Only places to insert a licence file or activate key. It says I have 1o days.
There is no where for me to change back to the Free version.
Is the only way to Uninstall the program and reboot into SAFE mode?
How does one run aswclear. In the dos box?
Does this mean that I am not protected although it says I am?
It really seems to me that the free version wants to flip into the paid version at the slightest opportunity.
It’s beginning to seem intentional, otherwise it would have been fixed by now.
You uninstall in normal mode, reboot to safe mode (with GUI) and start up the aswclear program.
Set your version and uninstall. Reboot to normal mode and reinstall.
