problem updating please help

hey i dont know how this happened but a little box popped up from the toolbar thing at the bottom of my screen and it said that my virus scanner was out of date. i just figured that it didnt update itself for some reason so i went into it and downloaded the updates manually, reset my computer and it still didnt work. so i went to the website and got the update off there. that didnt work! i even uninstalled it downloaded it again and installed it again and it still didnt work! i have just installed all of the windows update things and they didnt seem to work either… there is now a little windows security alert thing on the toolbar and when i click on it it brings me to the windows security center. it says Virus Protection (red light) OUT OF DATE, and under it, it says avast! antivirus 4.7.932[VPS 000723-2] reports that it might be out of date. Click Recommendations for suggested actions you would like to take. and the recomendations are absolutly useless… so admin or someone please help.

                                                          Thanks

Well, according to what you have posted your vps is up to date, however the actual program version is behind. The current is 4.7.942. What does it say when you right click the “a” icon near the clock, and click about avast. There have been other posts in the past about windows security center reporting the wrong info.

when i click about avast it says…

Avast! Version 4.7 Home edition; when i click the little + square beside it, it says
Built: Jan2007(4.7.942)
Xtreme Toolkit version 1.9.4.0
Using ActiveSkin version 4.2.7.3
VPS file (virus database)
Compilation date: 03/14/2007
File version: 000723-2

Which is your operational system?
Which firewall do you use?
Can’t you update just after login or at any time, I mean, can’t you manual update anymore?

@tech

It appears he is up to date on both vps and program version. It looks like windows security center is reporting the wrong info.

@asazinator

Search the forum for “windows security center” without the quotes. Oters have experienced this and I believe that a solution/workaround has been posted.

alright guys thanks :slight_smile:

argggg >:( i tried that thing posted by tech where u disable it and restart ur comp but that didnt work. i think avast itself is screwed up because a red box comes up and says the the virus database is out of date… and i must have downloaded the vps thing like 601006506203695382983767381024 times

alright! i got it i finally found a solution, i just had to change my system date and it worked :slight_smile:

Ahh well just what I was typing as you posted ;D

  1. check your system date, ensure your day month and year are correct, adjust if required.
