I’m using avast 7.0.1474 and the current virus definition version is 121206-1, and avast says that the virus definition is outdated and need to update when i click “update” it starts to download nothing and still say that the definition is outdated. What happened?

Try a repair of avast:
XP - Add Remove programs, select ‘avast! Anti-Virus,’ click the Change/Remove button and select Repair, click next and follow.
Vista, win7 - Control Panel, Programs & Features, uninstall a program, select ‘avast! Anti-Virus,’ click the Uninstall/Change and select Repair, click next and follow.
You may need to reboot after the repair.
Report any error (if any) displayed during the repair process.
