Hello guys, pls why is it that anytime i download avast update and try to load it manually is always a problem. i always uninstall the one on my system then install it again b4 the update will be able to load but will it continue like this i.e every time i will uninstall and install again b4 i can load any update manually. pls Avast should do something to this horrible situation
And whats the problem? Do you get any error message?
Have you had another antivirus program installed before, and how did you uninstall it?
I’ve got the same problem: I never get any automatical update that pops up although it is set to be done that way and when I try to do one manually it shows me this message error:
“Can’t install VPS update. Please repport following errorcodes:
Ver: 4.8. 1229
SI: 0x00000002
ST: 0xFFFFFFFF
LE: 0x00000000.”
I used to have Norton before and I uninstalled using the configuration pannel.
If anyone can help.
Thanks in advance.
Lisaa, first thing to do is to use http://service1.symantec.com/Support/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039 to uninstall the Norton remnants. If that doesn’t fix the problem, uninstall avast! with the uninstall utility at http://www.avast.com/eng/avast-uninstall-utility.html and then reinstall it. Let us know what happens.
:-[ It doesn’t work. I cleared all the remnants of Norton and then uninstalled and installed avast! but the same error messsage appears when I try to update the virus data base…
Windoes file system error 2 (00000002) is The system cannot find the file specified. So there is/was something wromg with your installation.
Do you have avast installed in the default folder (C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4) ?
Do a clean install following the steps exactly (since your avast version is not the latest 4.8.1296).
Download the latest version of avast http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html and save it to your HDD, somewhere you can find it again. Use that when you reinstall.
Download the avast! Uninstall Utility (if you haven’t already done so), find it here and save it to your HDD.
- Now uninstall (using add remove programs, if you can’t do that start from the next step), reboot.
- run the avast! Uninstall Utility, reboot. If step 1 failed it may be necessary to run this from safe mode, once complete reboot into normal mode.
- install the latest version, reboot.
;D It works!
The first time it didn’t work but I insisted (unistalled it and installed it again) and it worked. Can’t explain why…
Thank you very very much
