When I run an update, it says
Already up to date (current version 101004-1)
but the Update screen shows
Current version: 100921-1
Running Program version 5.0.677
Running Windows XP SP3; I have rebooted since installing.

check that your computer time / day / month / year is correct…adjust and reboot if not
avast repair
For a repair of avast. Windows, Add Remove programs, select ‘avast! Anti-Virus,’ click the Change/Remove button from the pop-up window, scroll down to Repair, click next and follow.
Tried that… It doesn’t work for me…
Jeremie
have you uninstalled any AV you used before installing avast! ?
have you used a removal tool to clean out leftovers ?
you can find one here http://uninstallers.blogspot.com/ run it and reboot
if you already have done it or it does not work, try a new clean install
propably not an issue here, but you may also check for malware with
Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 1.46 http://filehippo.com/download_malwarebytes_anti_malware/
always run update before you scan so you have the latest database
click the remove selected button to quarantine anything found
you may post the scan log here if anything found
What exactly doesn’t work, there were several options, reboot is one frequently left out.
Having done the repair and or a manual update check, reboot, that should hopefully bring them back into sync.
I have recently un-installed AVG, and did do a scan for left-overs as part of the process…
The error I was getting was that Avast said it updated to 101004-1, but was using 100921-1. I continued to get the error after repairing & rebooting.
However, I did an update this morning, my time, and it showed definitions version 101005-0 as available, and when it updated to those, it does now appear to be using them.
Thanks for the help & suggestions,
Jeremie
No problem, glad that it is working as it should.
