problem upgrading from 4.8 to 5.0 windows vista

I recently upgraded from avast 4.8 to 5.0 on windows vista. it appears that windows firewall is blocking
web access in 5.0. i can only access internet if i stop the web shield. stopping windows firewall with
web shield on still results in latter being blocked from internet. it wouldn’t update either because internet
access was blocked even with web shield off.

i had no problems with 4.8. i don’t have a problem continuing to use 4.8. is there a fix for the above? can
i continue to use 4.8 instead of upgrading?

  2. Support for 4.8 will end in late 2010, until then you can still use it and get updates.

Windows does not block outbound connections (to Internet).
Something else is blocking avast and you can’t go to Internet.

Something is blocking access by avast to internet as i am getting firewall popups telling me so.
i also have windows defender installed.
avast 5/0 is listed as an exception in windows firewall but it appears to not be letting avast communicate
either with internet.

i also upgraded to avast 5/0 on another computer running windows xp with zonealarm firewall v5 and have
no problems.

Did you ever installed a 3rd party firewall in this computer? Which one? How did you remove it?
Another antivirus besides avast?

Problem has been resolved.
I had vista firewall control also installed to block outgoing programs and forgot i had it.
this was blocking access by avast 5.0 . reconfiguring permissions resolved issue.
