Problem upgrading to Avast Pro 7: Avast Tray Icon Application Error

Tonight my husband clicked on the popup to upgrade Avast Pro from version 6 to version 7. All seemed to go well; a bubble popped up saying Welcome to Version 7, look for your Avast icon here (system tray), and then immediately a window appeared that said:

Avast Tray Icon Application Error
The instruction at 0x003a1628 referenced memory at 0x003a1628. The memory could not be written. Click OK to terminate the program.

Clicking OK just leads to the same window reappearing. He tried to repair the install and that didn’t work. I tried to uninstall the program using Control Panel (it’s running Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit) and it hung. So I downloaded a fresh copy of Avast Pro 7 and the aswclear.exe utility and followed the instructions to run the utility in Safe Mode. I then reinstalled Avast 7 using the freshly downloaded installer, default settings. The install appeared to complete successfully, and then the same Tray Icon error occurred.

I removed Avast 7 again using the utility, and reinstalled Avast Pro 6 (luckily we had a copy of the installer). This installed fine. So his computer is protected for the moment, but I’m not sure how we upgrade his computer to version 7. My computer is also telling me to upgrade Avast (I run Win 7 Home Premium 64 bit, currently running Avast Pro 6) and naturally I am hesitant to do so.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

same problem here. Every time i press OK i get another code on the referenced memory ex. 0x003d2dd0 or 0x00311200 etc

I’ve been trying to get this to work for 2 days no luck I had to install AVG 2012 :stuck_out_tongue: But at least I tried, don’t update :o
Also after scanning with AVG, 2 broken files were found. 1 from Chrome_AVS.exe and 1 from Gtoolbar_AVS.exe even after removing these problem still exist

Updates and upgrades issues, please check, http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=94514.msg752850#msg752850

That forum entry doesn’t have the answer to the original issue on this thread - which is the issue I now have with 7.0.1407 of Avast Free on my Win 7 32 bit machine. It works ok on my main profile but the other three users get the same tray icon error as KA9194.

I have had to uninstall and go with a trial version of 6 for 30 days. Wish I’d not upgraded. Definitely won’t be on my other machines until this is fixed.

(Someone said they installed 7.0.1414. Has that been released anywhere yet?)
