Are my posts invisible ? ;D I don’t see anyone answering those questions. The problem I mentioned up there (few providers keeps terminating after system reboot). I don’t think it’s up to my system settings. Everything is like it was before… After upgrading to 4.5 Beta, problems with providers started to show…

Greetz !

Sasha said…
Providers resuming and shutting down, settings not saved, XML and ODBC weird behavior…

worked for me… I setup Tbird with the normal pop and smtp settings… then went into The Mail Wizard and it worked

Sasha I can confirm that. Just tried Windows Update and got an error message that the Services for Distributed Link Tracking Client had been disabled. It’s not something that I or another program did. :o :o
Also none of the special settings are retained… notes on e-mail settings advanced settings etc. etc etc

Sorry Bob, I lost you there… what Services for Distributed Link Tracking Client had been disabled and where ? I don’t have problems with Windows update… See here what problems I’m talking about:

quote from some other thread with this topic:

I have exactly the same problem as Negeltu... and what's even worse, it's not just Network shiled that's affected, but also P2P shield and Instant Messaging... I started those providers prior to rebooting my system... every single time I log back on to Windows, providers are terminated, and only my STANDARD shield, Internet mail and Script Blocking are started and running...

Ah, yes… latest build here: Nov2004 (4.5.495)

Any idea on how to fix this, would be greatly appreciated.

I’ve heard other people are having same problems… not all, but quite large number…

Cheers !

EDIT: Great news on my side !!!

All problems with avast! not-remembering-providers issue, solved after latest build update 4.5.498

Hurray !

I cannot receive my emails since the last update ( 498 ).

I’m using Tbird with K9. It was working perfectly before the update.

As soon as i turn off the mail providers , it is working again.
I don’t even see the ashmailsv icon in the taskbar anymore

So it just hangs? Or how does it behave, exactly?
This is XP SP2?

Yes i’m using WinXP with SP2 and Tbird with the regular settings.

I mean no 127.0.0.1/110/user.name#pop.server.net settings with K9.
Just the regular ones.

I guess we can say that Tbird timeout.

Unity, configure the email account as avast! does not exists 8)

New email detection is automatic and do not require user interaction.

Anyway, spam killer applications need that you manually change the email account settings according to their settings

If you search for the word K9 in the board you will find how other users solve this 8)

well that s what i meant ^^

My settings are set for a K9 config without avast

Btw it was working perfectly with the 495 and 497 build.

Still wondering what these posts have to do with the initial problem I stated here ;D ;D ;D

well problem with 4,5 sounds good enough for me ;D

Sorry Eddy
I also thought this was the place to post problems with avast!4.5
I also have a problem with Mailwasher Pro being scanned.

Why do you call it a problem? This is by design.

In 4.1, it was like
mail client ---- avast ---- mailwasher ---- mail server

In 4.5, it’s like
mailclient ---- mailwasher ---- avast ---- mail server

What’s the problem?
Vlk

I use Mailwasher differently (as do a number of others I know). Mailwasher - Mail Client > avast > server/inbox

4.1 - I run MW first (no change to original account settings, no 127.0.0.1 changes, etc.), this deletes email from the server and hands off to OE. I then download remaining emails left on the server and avast scans them into OE inbox.

So there is no checking of the small portion of each email MW downloads to analyse and no possibility of double avast headers. This however, may change with 4.5 (I can’t say I have yet to upgrade to 4.5 beta).

well i have deleted the access for ashmail in my firewall and it doesn’t even ask for access when
i check my mail. Any idea on why ? i really doesn’t understand why it’s not working with this build ???

You can always swith off the automatic scanning in avast! 4.5 mail scanner and use it exactly as before (eg. vers 4.1) - as far as you believe, there are no viruses targeted for k9 and/or you’re waiting for the first one to infect you.

Might I ask for some more detailed info: Does it work without K9? Does it work in K9 directly? Does it work in some other mail client on your PC? What are your account settings (username, server, port)? What port does K9 listen on (default 9999) ? What port does ashMaiSv.exe listen on (default 110)?

Also, you might have a look at this thread, it’s concerning “problems” with k9 as well. http://forum.avast.com/index.php?board=11;action=display;threadid=8099;start=msg65888#msg65888

Bye.
Lukas

Ok so i’m living in the twilight zone. :o

This morning it’s working again and i didn’t modify anything.
Don’t ask me why ,cos i have really no idea on what happened
and i thought i was a skilled computer user ;D

Anyway , i’m crossing my fingers ^^ , thanks for your help guys
