I’m using a Dell laptop with W8.1. A few days ago I tried to uninstall and reinstall your AV program. I started the aswClear program into save boot, and a moment later I was asked for a password. I have only one during startup, but the system didn’t accept it. I tried again and again - no luck.
Restarts brought me back to this point. Somehow I got out of this loop and restored the system. Everything worked out (except one problem), and the Avast AV program was reinstalled as well.
But now the Clear program appears under msconfig in the boot section. I was able to delete Clear and put the OS on default (apply/OK), but as soon as I select normal bootup under ‘General’ and restart the system, Clear reappears in the boot section and under General the selection jumped back to selective startup.
Since I restored the OS, Windows Update doesn’t work anymore. I assume, that it doesn’t work, because there is this selective startup.
Can someone help me with this issue?
I appreciate your comments
Best wishes
Henning
I’m sure there can be assistance however, more information will be needed.
You don’t mention which AV program or version you wanted to “uninstall and reinstall”.
What OS and what other security software installed.
Thank you for your comments - somehow I can’t get rid of the aswClear.
When I open msconfig, under 'General" selective startup is marked.
When I then open “Boot” only the OS is listed.
When I switch back to ‘General’, choose normal startup, which I would like,
and then switch back to “Boot”, the OS and Avast Clear Uninstall are listed.
I then mark the OS as default OS, delete Avast Clear Uninstall and click Apply and OK.
The I click ‘Restart’.
After that, when I open msconfig, selective startup again is marked and under Boot there
is only the OS listed. I can’t get back to a normal startup.
Thank you - if this is indeed ‘normal’, then when should I choose “Normal startup”?
I didn’t notice this (selective) situation for quite some time, because I looked for
different issues.
Thanks again!
Henning
That’s might be it’s setting when you first purchase the computer before any changes or additions (Installations) happen.
All 5 of the computers in my house reflect what I’ve show on the screenshot from the computer that I’m using right now.
