Problem with aswrvrt.sys...Windows XP...unable to Boot

my computer is not booting and when tried on safe mode, it reach the aswrvrt.sys and then its only the blue screen.

I tried so many times…kindly help and let me know what to do

thanks

Hi, I have a problem where XP won’t boot normally and hangs on aswrvrt.sys when booting in safe mode.

I tried so many times and then as per some previous tread, I did the following:
Download OTLPENet.exe to your desktop
Download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to a flash drive.
Ensure that you have a blank CD in the drive
Double click OTLPENet.exe and this will then open imgburn to burn the file to CD
Reboot your system using the boot CD you just created.
Insert the flash drive with FRST on it
Locate the flash drive and run FSRT
The tool will start to run.
When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
Press Scan button.
It will make a log (FRST.txt) on the flash drive. Please copy and paste it to your reply.

I have attached the FRST.txt to this message. Kindly let me know what to do next.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in Advance…

A malware expert has been notified. It’ll be a bit before he comes online.

Thanks for the message…will wait for his response

From the reatogo desktop open a command prompt and run the following command :

chkdsk c: /r

Then try a reboot

Hello…did the checkdsk, as stated…it took a long time…and then tried to reboot normal and the window xp opening window came and nothing else happened…I left for few hours, as the window XP opening window stayed the same way…

I did the first round again and created a new FRST file…pls find attached the same.

pls let me know what to do next…thanks in advance

OK we will try this first… I can now see all the registries

Download the attached fixlist.txt to the same location as FRST
Open FRST and press fix

On completion try a normal boot

Thanks for the response…but, I cannot find the fixlist.txt file…can you please check whether the same was attached to that message or not…

thanks in advance

That is because I am a numpty :-X

See below

Thanks for the file…I did the fix with the file provided…and tried to reboot…still the same…when tried rebooting on safe mode, its stuck again on aswRvrt.sys …and it goes to the Windows XP blue screen…that’s it…

I am attaching the fixlog file… pls let me know what to do next.

Thanks in Advance…

OK this will disable all Avast drivers and services

Download the attached fixlist.txt to the same location as FRST
Open FRST and press fix

On completion try a normal boot

thanks for the message and the file to disable Avast drivers…

when I rebooted it was stuck again…when done in safe mode, it got stuck with ‘mup.sys’…and then went into windows xp opening blue window and stuck there…

what can be done next…pls help…look forward to hear with further instruction…pls find attached the fixlog file

thanks in advance

Do you have the windows CD

no, I looked all through the old CDs, its not there…is there any other way…

I think Essexboy is trying to get you to do a XP Repair Install.
http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm …you need to follow the instructions EXACTLY…else the process can also REFORMAT your entire HDD.
…but you need an XP O/S CD…in fact one that is identical to the Windows XP (Home, Pro, etc.) version you have installed…& ideally the Service Pack level you have on PC.
It does not have to be your original CD…but ISO images of XP are not easy to find on web anymore.
http://pcsupport.about.com/od/windowsxp/f/download-windows-xp.htm

I did find this link: https://archive.org/details/HPOperatingSystemCDWindowsXPHomeSP3OEM …I have not used XP in many years so cannot vouch for validity.
…again, you need to know the version of XP installed…Essexboy may have quick trick to determine that…didn’t see it in FRST log.

thanks so much for the message…

it is Windows XP home edition with service pack 3…

one more important point…

just now I tried to boot in safe mode…unlike yesterday…it got stuck again in aswRvt.sys…and then went to the blue window XP opening page and that’s it…

Does it mention aswrvrt.sys in the blue screen? I thought it was disabled by the earlier procedure you tried?

I thought if it was disabled it shouldn’t be accessed and therefore should not be a failure point? Perhaps I’m wrong ?

I don’t think the system tries to load the contents of \windows\system32\drivers unless they’re referenced in then registry

The registry references to all Avast drivers were deleted so windows should not try to start them

If it were me and above I’d do a XP Repair install…after trying all other avenues from the experts here.

which seems you are in luck… https://archive.org/details/HPOperatingSystemCDWindowsXPHomeSP3OEM
