Problem with auto update today?

Today for the first time ever, Avast6 didn’t update the virus database when starting my system. Is there any known problem?

I uninstalled WebRep completely after upgrading to Avast6. Could this be a cause?

Absolutly no problem on my systems. 8)

What is your system ???
XP, Vista, Windows 7 ???

Vista Ultimate 32bit.

There was an update and I had to do it manually (110227-1)

No problem either.

Latest VPS update is here 110228-0.

Greetz, Red.

There are lots of users here still on Vista.
As you are new here I would wait for a user with Vista to help you but you need to provide more details about how you connect to the Internet and the settings for avast!

Rednose beat me. 8)

I never had a single auto-update problem with Avast until today with the same system and settings. My latest update (manually) was 6-7 hours ago and Avast still shows 110227-01 definition! ???

The problem seems to be solved after restarting my system. I will check it again in the next days. Thanks so far.

I think, somehow Avast 6 delays/prevents my wireless connection at startup. The wireless signal is ok, but I cannot connect to the internet. When this happens, the auto-update doesn’t work, even when I reestablish my wireless connection.

For example:

Please check the following to check the settings:
Open Avast GUI > Settings > Updates >

A. Engine and Virus Definitions:

  • Automatic Update (default)
  • For “Manual” or “Ask When Update Available ” > Settings > Status Bar > Uncheck the last box

B. Update Parameters: all boxes unchecked (default)

  • If you use DSL, you may want to set #2 above to “My computer is permanently connected to the Internet.”
  • If you use dial-up, you will want to use #2 above to “I only connect to the Internet using dial-up modem.”

C. Proxy Settings: Auto Detect using IE Settings (default)

  • Some people have found that using “Direct connection / No Proxy” have worked for them.
  • Use “Specify Proxy Server” if you use a proxy and complete the information below it for the proxy server > click “OK.”

Please tell us your settings.

My settings are all the same as before with Avast 5.

A. Automatic Update (default)

B. all boxes unchecked (default)

C. Auto Detect using IE settings (default)

I think this problem occurs randomly on my system. I never had a similar problem with auto-update before. I use DSL.

(By the way, there is no problem with my another two systems using default settings: XP Pro (ethernet) + Vista HP (wireless), both 32bit.)

Should I try your suggestions in B and C?

Yes, give it a try and let us know if it fixes your problem. Thanks.

Two days and no more problems, if it isn’t by accident. I checked the box “my computer is permanently connected to the Internet”.

Loading time of gadgets and wireless connection to the internet at start-up seem to be speeded up as well.

Thanks again.

Glad to hear that everything is working fine again. Feel free to come back any time you need help, to learn something new, or just to ask questions. We are here 24/7 for your convenience. Thank you.
