problem with automatic update and creating shortcut item in every scan

i am using free avast since 2010. recently i installed windows 8.1 . i found that i have to manually update my avast everyday though i change all avast settings for automatic update. And every scan time avast is creating a shortcut icon of every folder. it’s very annoying. >:(

What’s are the solutions??

Try a repair of avast first and if that fails then go the clean install route.
