Problem with automatic Updates

I have discovered that my automatic updates are not being downloaded, ie no more notifications of them needing installation, and have even tried the web site to fix this problem but when i try to update I get an error message and cannot get further than the express or custom install selection screen. when I choose either I get the same error message [Error number: 0x800704DD]. when I look for an explanation for this I get an the: HTTP Error 500 - Internal Server Error.

My pc is set for Automatic downloading and installation of updates but it doesn’t seem to work

if someone could suggest where to get them from insead of that site it would be great as i don’t even have the ie7 update

Added the last part in a txt file, the other method was taking too long.
aslo just realised tihis is in the virus section, might be in the wrong place.

If you set the proxy to “none” instead of “auto detect”, will it help?
Program settings > Update (Connections) > Proxy

I get to part 2 of step 2 in section B and I have a problem:

It tells me to expand this far

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Notify\SensLogn

But I cannot get further than \notify … it seems that Senslogn doesn’t exist, and i’m guessing that’s bad

It says add/modify where necessary, does that mean I have to create the Senslogn part of the registry, I want to confirm because I am out of my depth here and I don’t want to mess up the computer

Thanks for the suggestion Tech, the Microsoft forum was great. I managed to get it fixed and I now see that familiar yellow shield in the taskbar. Turns out I did have to play around in the registry (not something I wanted to do).

Just a side note but now I have this back I am being prompted to install SP3, Is there anything I should do before doing this?

As long as your computer is malware free, yes, you should install SP3.
